South Carolina’s Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) Join $10M US Department of Energy Initiative for Renewable Energy

South Carolina’s HBCUs join a $10 million US Department of Energy project, known as SMART, to repurpose electric vehicle lithium-ion batteries, providing a second life with high value per kilowatt-hour and contributing to sustainability. The project, in collaboration with multiple partners, including Smartville Inc., aims to create grid resiliency, lower energy costs, and offer career training opportunities at educational institutions.
