Located in sunny Carlsbad, CA, Smartville addresses the imminent retired electric vehicle battery challenge by repurposing and optimizing battery useful life. We build sustainable and scalable energy storage systems from retired EV batteries, one battery pack, one-kilowatt hour, at a time.

The Role

We are currently seeking a Senior Project Manager to join our Smartville team. As the Senior Project Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing and leading the existing project management staff to successfully deliver Smartville’s expanding business opportunities. You will lead cross-functional multi-disciplined project teams to identify, develop, acquire, and close opportunities to meet strategic and financial goals of the organization. This position will also be responsible for managing budgets, timelines, and deliverables, through phases of complex renewable energy and energy storage system projects. Responsibilities

  • Oversee initiation and execution of funded projects, ensure timely completion of project deliverables, and define project scopes, budgets, goals, and objectives.
  • Supports business goals in collaboration with senior management, engineering, and external stakeholders.
  • Take the lead on proposal submission and organize deliverables for submission.
  • Prepare and present to the executive team monthly reports including, but not limited to, tracking budgets, project expenses, developments, and new funding opportunities.
  • Create program/project reports and presentations to both internal and external clients.
  • Help create business goals in collaboration with senior management and stakeholders.
  • Manage stakeholder expectations, end user interactions, project details, timelines, and scope and drive issue resolution.
  • Monitor daily activities of the project management team to ensure that procedures are working to achieve program goals and to support efficient processes.
  • Perform other duties of a similar nature or level.

Requirements

  • Demonstrate leadership ability by leading the project management team through all five phases (initiating, planning, execution, monitoring, closing), and in program/project budget management, tracking and reporting.
  • Strong management skills to execute planned projects that are aligned with the company’s objectives.
  • Extremely detail-oriented, exceptional critical thinking skills and the ability to perform within required deadlines.
  • Deep understanding of electric vehicle/energy storage and alternative fuel technologies.
  • Deep understanding of electric vehicle/energy storage market development and trends.
  • 5+ years project management experience preferably in the renewable energy industry.
  • 2 – 3 years of experience related to the duties and responsibilities specified, including project implementation and experience building and maintaining relationships with external clients.
  • Relevant experience in renewable energy and sustainability is a plus.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in engineering and/or environmental studies such as, mechanical/energy engineer, environmental/energy policy, transportation planning, and environmental planning. MBA preferred.
  • Experience with project and budget management software programs.
  • Have excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Have strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Can work independently with direction on a regular basis.
  • High knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experienced with Data analysis programs (MATLAB, Excel, etc.), and design software (AutoCAD, Solidworks, etc.).
  • Department of Energy (DOE) and/or California Energy Commission (CEC) grant experience preferred.

Projects will utilize electrical vehicle batteries for renewable energy technology. Under the supervision of the CEO, the Senior Project Manager will facilitate the coordination of multiple projects and assume the lead in all project management and development related duties. This position will also provide overall operational support within Smartville’s engineering and business development teams, including new project development and implementation, proposal development, project initiation and start-up, and marketing activities.
